Everyone is aware of the benefits of exercise. However, some people are unable to do much exercise like swimming, running, cycling or any other due to low stamina. Also, at some point in time, your brain says continue exercising but your body gives up.

The endurance training may not provide a solution in some cases. The news study suggests that a new ‘Exercise-In-A-Pill’ can boost the stamina of an individual during exercise. Also, building stamina using this pill do not need much time.

In past, the researchers from Salk Institute have found a gene pathway that triggered running. On basis of this study, scientists discovered a process that triggers the same activity in mice. This pathway is activated with the help of chemical compound. This chemical compound increases the stamina and helps in the fat burning process.

A transcription factor present in our genes called PPAR delta(PPARD) boost the stamina by activating certain pathways in our body. During exercise, our body gives up when it does not get enough glucose. The endurance training programs train our muscles to burn less glucose and preserve it for the brain. Hence by activating the PPARD using ‘Exercise-In-A-Pill’ can increase our stamina and there is no need of training programs. The findings of the study have been published in the journal Cell Metabolism on May 2.

The conducted study

The study was conducted on mice during which PPARD was genetically removed from the mice and then it was placed on a treadmill. The researchers found that the genes that are activated by exercise were not triggered. Hence, the researchers concluded that PPARD plays an important role in improving stamina without spending much energy.

In the second trial, the mice were given a small drug called GW1516 or just GW to artificially trigger PPARD before the start of exercise. The results proved that this drug increases the fat oxidation and reduces the loss of glucose from our body. Also, the mice performed more physical exercise than before. The exercise time was increased from 160 to 270 minutes alone on the treadmill without any endurance programs.

However, this ‘Exercise-In-A-Pill’ needs the involvement of physical activity. If one does not perform any physical activity then there are no results. Hence this ‘Exercise-In-A-Pill’ could not provide a replacement for daily exercise.
